Hi Mike,

THere is http://packages.ubuntu.com/ which provides much of this
information, albeit not as a "guide".  Perhaps (part of) the guide
should cover how that site can be used?

Note also that "component" does already have a meaning in this domain:
    http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ubuntustory/components
