Having a shared repository on the local disk is also a big timesaver.
Here a test run for the ubuntu desktop course:
1) In shared repository:
% time bzr branch ubuntu-desktop-course udcb-test
Branched 157 revision(s).
bzr branch ubuntu-desktop-course udcb-test 1.16s user 0.70s system 24% cpu 7.633 total
2) Outside of shared repo:
% time bzr branch /home/spindler/Work/desktop-repo/ubuntu-desktop-course udcb-test2
Branched 157 revision(s).
bzr branch /home/spindler/Work/desktop-repo/ubuntu-desktop-course udcb-test2 8.27s user 4.44s system 31% cpu 40.341 total
