Hello everyone. I have been using ubuntu for about 2 years now.
Loving it. I started with Mandriva linux, but came across Ubuntu a few
years ago. Took a little getting used to, becasue where I used to live,
I could only get dial-up. And Ubuntu did not, and still does not
support the dial-up modem in my laptop. Had to go to a local coffee
shop to get wifi access. But now I have wifi at home to a cable ISP.
Sooooo much better.
Anyways, I also had problems with my wifi, a realtec 8187b. I needed
to wait until Ubuntu Itrepid for the major fix. I still had some
smaller issues. At my desk I am about ten feet from the wireless
router. At times I would have difficulties connecting/communicating
with the router. I would move the laptop around to try to get a better
connection. I was only ten feet away. And if I move about 20 feet
away, I would get no connection, even though the network manager wifi
icon showed that I had enough signal to work. I have found a fix, and I
want to share it. I found the fix on a forum, but I want the fix to be
easier to find, so I would like to include the solution in Ubuntu's
Docs. Or is the Wiki the better place for that?
