Hi all,
Although being a very new member to the ubuntu docs team (recently submitted
a short technical review of the printing, faxing and scanning pages), I have
been reading with interest about the creation of a team working on an
installation guide.
I'm unaware if any other contributors have applied to become the technical
reviewer, but I'd thought that I would submit my application just to gauge
people's responses and thoughts.
I am currently a computing student (in London) and have a real passion for
the power and benefits that open-source software can bring to anyone across
the world. Although being relatively young and just being an 'average' user
of ubuntu, this sounds like an extremely interesting project and something
which I would be interesting in filling my spare time with (lots of it,
being a student)! I'm also learning C++ in my spare time as it is related to
my course.
I am not completely aware in detail, of the development process and
schedules that documents are created for new ubuntu releases (although I
believe that 2 new versions of ubuntu are released every year?). But, I am a
keen learner and reliable. For this position, I would need to increase my
knowledge of XML, but I am keen to do this!
I'm unaware if being in the UK will create any constraints on me being a
team member when working in a structured environment, and also I am not
fully aware of the IRC and other methods of communication that members of
the team usually use for communication. Although, once again, I am a keen
learner!
Overall, this sounds like a great project for me to get involved with and
despite my obvious lack of knowledge and experience, I hope that I can
contribute in anyway possible.
Thanks for your time.
Oliver Parsons.
