10 bugs later: a quick report

Hello,
I tagged about 10 bugs today because ubuntu-doc really needs a lot of
cleaning up and triaging. Lots of cleaning up. Irregardless of release,
there are some relevant bugs out in the blue, and I'll be continuing
some more tomorrow.
Here are some of my observations.
About three weeks after UDS, we still don't have many doc bugs tagged
saucy, essentially none at all. The team needs more prying eyes and
more triagers. Also, these open bugs are 99% not based on the
documentation from help.ubuntu.com. Rather, the reporters think
ubuntu-doc is some program that is causing bugs (LP #1165255). Other
times, they think ubuntu-doc is somehow related to apport (LP
#1171471). Some reporters treat a bug report as a support thread (LP
#1095172). Although we would have to mark it as INVALID, we should be
encouraging more valid bugs. To increase such chances, I suggest that
we set more proper bug reporting guidelines for ubuntu-doc.
Fortunately, there are some, if not a scarcity of, non-bogus bugs. Some
only require a string-fix in the wiki, while others are worthy of
discussion before change is implemented. Seriously, there are some
great ideas that haven't made it in to the documentation. After all,
13.04's doc is but a carbon copy of 12.10's.
I have some questions.
- Why would apport-bug be reporting on ubuntu-doc? I might be wrong,
but I'm guessing this is why many people think ubuntu-doc, not the
programs themselves, was the source of the problem. Perhaps for the
bugs that don't really have anything to do with the clarity of the
written word, we should reassign the bug to another project.
- What should we do with reports of a different language? There are
some reports with descriptions in Chinese, French, and Spanish here and
there. Should any effort be made to revise them in English (help of
Google translate?)
- If I were to confirm the bug, should I also set it to "affects me" as
well?
Thank you,
John Kim
