Wow, this was a great email, thank you so much for taking the time to write it!

Many of the issues you have encountered are ones that I've been asking
about for some time now. In fact, when Daniel sent his email this
morning I reached out to him directly and said the following in chat:

"so the core stuff of what's missing from docs team stuff is launchpad
(what branch to use?), mallard (but you mention docbook..?) and in
general how this is all handled

the current doc page is similar to what you proposed, and not very
helpful if folks actually want to get working on docs and have no idea
where to find them or what format they're in, which is the core of our
problem"

I hope with the details your email brings to the conversation (indeed,
I've meant to write such a thorough one for quite some time now)
someone can finally answer these questions for us. I'm also working to
reach out to some of the former contributors directly to see if they
can help shed light on this in case posting to the list doesn't get us
anywhere.
