Doug mentioned the multiple people editing it issue (which really is a
problem during peak times), the other issues with the wiki are the
barriers to entry for casual contributors, including:
Requiring an account to access (same goes for using the Ubuntu etherpad)
Requiring familiarity with editing wikis
There's also the unfortunate fact that the wiki can be slow at times
and some users in more remote places have complained that this is a
serious barrier to their contributions. Google docs have servers
around the world and while not perfect, it has provided a consistant
experience worldwide, I also use it for the Ubuntu Weekly Newsletter
collaboration.
That said, I would certainly love to get off a proprietary tool run by
a company, but at this point I don't believe sacrificing ease of
contributions is worth it because we're already struggling here to get
folks involved.
