Style Guide on UI Writing for Developers?

Hi all,

I'm writing my Master's thesis on the translation/localization of different
user interfaces in Ubuntu, and I was wondering, what developers currently
are using as their guidelines on writing the original text in their
programs' UI's. Is there a UI writer's style guide somewhere (couldn't find
one on the Ubuntu website), or is it maybe recommended to adhere to the
Documentation Style Guide in this matter?

Any contributions are appreciated, it would be really helpful for my
research to find this information.
