Ouch. It's only after this explanation I realized the verb in that sentence fragment is "to compare" and no "to be".

First off, the sentence begins with a conjunction. I know of few style guides that condone sentences beginning with a
conjunction, we might want to fix that, since it really turns the entire sentence into a subordinate clause of the
preceding sentence.

Second, the infinitive of the main verb is split by a comparative adjective ("better") that can is often also used as an
adverb ("better") under similar circumstances. Because splitting an infinitive is considered by grammar
prescriptionists as incorrect English and drilled into schoolchildren backl when they taught grammar, most people are
going to parse the phrase "containers are better compared" as having the verb "to be" modified by the adverb "better"
rather having the noun "containers" modified by the adjective "better". Physical proximity to the antecedent counts in
English.

The sentence is clearly ambiguous, with starkly opposite meanings. A patch to clarify it would be nice.
