Hi :)
You can write directly into the email instead of having to write a separate
document and then attaching the document. I am going to paste the contents
of the attachment directly into this email to make it easier for everyone
else.

Dear More knowledgeable,

I have been using Ubuntu for more than a year or so and everything was OK
while I used

V12.04Lts. After deciding to upgrade to V14.04Lts I can get to the password
screen but after

entering password all I am left with is the wallpaper.

I have found the way to get to GRUB and tried all the different kernels—no
go.

I do not know how to write commands or crash reports.

Trying to understand the forums is a headache.

My system is a All-in-one HP Touchsmart 310 PC, 4GB ram, 1 TB HHD.

The earlier version of Ubuntu was installed on a new hard disc and had
nothing to do with

`Windows'. Under settings, the display was detected as a laptop. Could this
have something to do with the problem?.

I have also tried Ubuntu boot repair—No go.

Do I have to throw away the hard disc and start again from scratch. Can you
please help.

 Regards, E.Roberts.
