Hmm.. Do you have a URL to that guide?
In general, for minor uncontroversial fixes, there should be no need to
request reviews IMO. For major changes, or changes of the most high
profile pages, discussing them at e.g. this list is however recommended.

If you addressed the issues which motivated the tags, it was indeed
right to remove them.

I might not have updated it, but only because I'm lazy. ;) If you do it,
I agree it's a good idea to use GNOME going forward.
