Instalación nueva versión J2SE Runtime Environment

He seguido las instrucciones de la guía de ubuntu, pero cuando ejecuto en el
terminal:

sudo fakeroot make-jpkg jre-1_5_0_06-linux-i586.bin
-------------------------------------------------------------------

me sale el siguiente mensaje de error:

install scripts that directly manipulate /etc, and may cause some
inconsistencies on your system. Instead, you should become a
non-root user and run:

fakeroot make-jpkg jre-1_5_0_06-linux-i586.bin

still permit the Java distribution to successfully extract.

He copiado el paquete bin en la carpeta /usr/java y desde ahí he ejecutado
la instrucción en la terminal...

Alguna idea?
