Desinstalar kernel viejos

Para borrar versiones antiguas del kernel, que no estás usando, abre
Synaptic, En la ventana de la izquierda ordena por Secciones y después
selecciona «Sistema base» y en búsqueda rápida pon «image». Te van a
aparecer una serie de linux-image-*** instalados. Estos son los paquetes
correspondientes a los núcleos (kerneles) instalados, marca los que
quieras desinstalar (van a estar en verde), pero por favor, no los
borres todos, deja por lo menos el más reciente (yo por seguridad
mantengo 2 instalados) o vas a tener un gran dolor de cabeza después...

Adicionalmente a esto, es conveniente también desinstalar sus
correspondientes headers, que no se borran automáticamente; estos no te
servirán y ocupan muchos megas de espacio. Para hacerlo, en la venta
izquierda pon «Todo» y en búsqueda rápida «header». Selecciona para
borrar los paquetes correspondientes a los núcleos eliminados
anteriormente.

Si el paquete restricted-modules no se borra automáticamente con el
núcleo correspondiente, lo haces a mano.

No estoy seguro si una vez eliminados los núcleos, el
archivo /boot/grub/menu.lst se edita automáticamente, pero de no ser así
simplemente lo abres...

$ sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

... y borras todas las entradas a los núcleos que estén obsoletas.
