Error al formatear disquete 3.5

Al intentar formatear desde la Utilidad de Discos con el esquema MBR un
disquete de 3.5 para hacer un disco de rescate de Ubuntu 10.04 me da el
siguiente error:

Error creating partition table: helper exited with exit code 1: In
part_create_partition_table: device_file=/dev/fd0, scheme=0
got it
got disk
committed to disk
BLKRRPART ioctl failed for /dev/fd0: Invalid argument

Si lo intento con el esquema sin particionar, me sale: 

Error creating partition table: helper exited with exit code 1:
BLKRRPART ioctl failed for /dev/fd0: Invalid argument

Si es con el esquema tabla de particiones GUID, sale:

Error creating partition table: helper exited with exit code 1: In
part_create_partition_table: device_file=/dev/fd0, scheme=3
got it
got disk
committed to disk
BLKRRPART ioctl failed for /dev/fd0: Invalid argument

He probado con otros disquetes,  y es lo mismo. Lo he intentado desde el
Administrador de Arranque, pero solo me da un mensaje: error.
