voici mon problème.
Un beau jour, alors que mon Hoary marchait comme un charme, j'ai constaté que la résolution de l'écran avait baissé, et impossible de la modifier par le menu de Gnome, j'étais bloqué sur une résolution par défaut.
Après quelques recherches, j'ai tenté de reconfigurer xfree :
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
J'ai du mal renseigner un paramètre, car c'était pire en redémarrant :
au lancement de X :
fatal server error : no screens found
problem parsing the config file
error from xf86handleconfigfile
data incomplete 
at least one Device section is required
