If I  can offer an additional  thought: frankly,  I suspect the  reason that religion  is an issue  (i.e. where  you perceive things as "disrespectful"  or "make fun of religion") is that - being a Catholic school - it  is something that  is prominently  put into people's face daily. I  went  to  a  catholic school:  I'm guessing you  have PA (tannoy  etc) or in-class  prayers twice or three times a day - amiright?

What the  Americans here  may not  understand is that Catholic school in  the UK  is  very different to in  the US. In the UK, most Catholic schools are actually state-funded tax-money schools (I'm  avoiding "public" vs "private", as "public" also has a different meaning between the two areas). I  suspect your school  is  a regular  mainstream tax-funded school with a relatively diverse intake,  including a  large number of parents  who attended a particular  church as a means to get access to their local school (admissions rules mean that for a tax-funded  school,  the Catholic bussed in from 20 miles away takes priority for places before the non-Catholic Christian the other side of town, who comes before  the  Hindu  two streets away, who  in turn  takes priority ahead of  the atheist who lives next to the school).

Basically: my view is  that what you report is simply a  product of the screwed up approach to religion and  school policy. Of which I am not  ignorant: I am the chair of governors for a  UK school.

If the school didn't constantly make religion  a prominent topic  of discussion: *religion would not be a prominent  topic of discussion*.

If  the  school didn't  constantly  make religion a divisive issue: *religion would not be a divisive issue*.
