It can't depend on the font used by the translator as the translator has
provided the input in Unicode and thus any Unicode compliant font should
be able to display that text. Do you have the ttf-indic-fonts package
installed? That should solve the fonts issues. Else, it's possible that
there is something broken in the ttf-freefonts package. Soumyadip, can
you enlighten us on this?

Heh, there was no need to tweak defoma et al, those things are set up
perfectly and they rarely need any modification from the user. It's just
that your browser has some issues. Just be patient, these issues are
very trivial in nature.
