HI,
I have installed ubuntu 5.10 on my desktop. I did this because, i was not
able to install 6.06 or 7.04 since i used to get stuck in between the
installation. Is there any way to directly install the 6.06 or 7.04 versions
of ubuntu ( without actually running them as live CDs )?
I tried to update ubuntu 5.10 from a CD. Could not do this.
I got this error message when i tried to install gcc:
$ sudo apt-get install gcc

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gcc: Depends: cpp (>= 4:4.0.3-1) but 4:4.0.1-3 is to be installed
Depends: gcc-4.0 (>= 4.0.3) but it is not going to be installed
How can i resolve this issue?
Please help me out in this regard.
Thank u,
Pramod.
