Hi Ram,
There are differences in the way the Ubuntu & Debian
packages are built. A simplisitic explanations would be Ubuntu does is
take (some) packages from debian (called upstream) and take packages
from other sources (such as GNOME & other places) and put them
together. Now what Ubuntu strives is to make it easier for people to
do stuff so they do stuff in the way they want to. I don't mean it in
any bad way but that's the way it is. Debian has its own policy and
Ubuntu has its own policy. Simply speaking as Parthan said it will
break stuff as the Debian .debs would look for things at places & not
find it & complain/crash etc. Of course that would be a nice
experiment to see what breaks & what doesn't & make a lovely blog
post/article/presentation as well as learning experience for sure.
Another nice little experiment that would be more helpful to people I
guess is take those 4 Debian CD's & package them into one nice little
DVD, the index & all so its easier for people who want it & learn a
bit about stuff in the process.
For Ubuntu however you would be better off to download the
CD/DVD of it or if you really want it compile stuff from sources ;)

/me out ;)
