[ubuntu-in] Dual Core and Core 2 duo?

I do not yet know the exact model being offered but what my man in HP sales said a lower price can be offered as part of a package if our institution will buy around 20 something machines.

Is there any significant difference, from user's point of view, in laptops having Intel dual core and Core 2 duo? I wish to use my laptop for internet reading, office apps, programming with python, django etc. Although i know that core 2 duo is made from ground up for better performance but is it really great or is it just a hype?  
I believe that C2D's are slightly more power efficient. Besides I 
don't think you should find much difference for the type of work 
that you've mentioned.

there doesn't seem much to differenciate between the two on
what I saw.
Are both the models you compared on price having the same 
hardware except for the processor? Could be that the price 
difference is there because of something else other than the
 processor.
