[ubuntu-in] S-OT - Need specific info on Serial to USB cable for Huawei ETS 2288 CDMA phone

Hi

This issue is a bit off topic but i need some help to set up the Huawei 
ETS 2288 CDMA (WLL) BSNL .

I have been followinf the guide posted by Mir sometime back - but don't 
seem to be able to get beyond the dmesg stage -

the message i keep getting is
[ 1145.432000] pl2303 1-2:1.0: pl2303 converter detected
[ 1145.432000] usb 1-2: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0

it identifies the USB to serial cable but no the device attached to the 
cable.

So i need to know exactly what usb to serial convertor is being used.

Does the ets 2288 have to be on / off - My guess is on because i doubt 
that the USB could supply power to the device.

Am quite frustrated at not being able to get the internet going even 
though i have the device.

Any suggestions
