Hardly true. Embedded devices are all very different no matter how alike
they might seem. There is no guarantee that you'll even get as far as a
shell on the embedded device without the exact drivers required for that
hardware.

And there is nearly no possibility of your getting to use the device for
making phone calls without some drivers/proprietary information that the
companies just won't release.

If you can't hack the kernel and drivers necessary to boot up. Or don't know
how to reflash the original OS when the phone is bricked .. it's best to
avoid experimenting.

And all your advice above are sure fire ways to brick the phone.
