[ubuntu-in] Are there Kubuntu users on this list as well ??

Hi All,
This is Arpan and I am using Kubuntu for 8 months now, currently Kubuntu
7.10 KDE 4.0.1 desktop installed. I also have Ubuntu 7.10 installed on
another drive. I always keep my system dual booting :-)

Talking about right clicks, you get options of creating text file, HTML file
and a new folder in file manager(Dolphin) as well as on desktop. However on
desktop you get extra options for creating shortcuts to a URL, device or an
application. I do have OpenOffice installed but it does not help in getting
any extra options for creating documents or presentations.

>1. Can I easily switch between Gnome and KDE desktops after installing
this?

Yes, it's easy to switch between Gnome and KDE, you need to select desktop
environment before logging in.

One more point you should remember while installing KDE over Gnome or vice
versa, that KDE and Gnome applications will clutter your application menu.
Their menu items will be intermingled which is not good from ease of use
POV.

This can be a subjective topic but I will put up my experience with each of
them.

- Gnome focuses on and provides simplicity for use but some times you may
want more control over your system. I find lack of good audio player in
Gnome, none of the player comes near to Amarok of KDE. Sometimes I really
miss few right-click and select task kind of things missing in KDE compared
to Gnome. Compiz integration is great with Gnome for the people who like eye
candy. I love Ubuntu Human theme all around in Gnome.
- KDE is an awesome environment with some really rocking apps. The trio that
I find unbeaten is Amarok audio player,  KTorrent(best torrent app providing
all sort of functionalities and details) and K3B(CD burning, If you like(d)
Nero on windows then you should like this one better). Akregator feed reader
is also a good app and I find Kopete(chat) better than pidgin(old name
gaim). Addition of D3lphin/Dolphin is a great move and it works great as a
file manager. KDE basically provides you finer control over your system i.e.
easy configuration tools and apps with lot of features.
