Hi Folks,
Thanks for all the responses,
have been a gnome user for quite a while but am impressed by both the
quality and responsiveness of apps under KDE hence the query, will give kde
a try and hope to have KDE and Gnome installed as separate desktop
interfaces (as opposed to ubuntu / kubuntu dual boot).
Tried installling many KD apps and it began messing up my clean Gnome hence
the need for separation. And once the apps are installed i guess it should
be both easy to switch interfaces through re-login and use specific tools
through the CLI.

Yep, thats what i noticed was different about KDE the right click options /
dialogue (to clarify) gives options to open specific files (like wincedows
but a good thing to have). Wonder why gnom does not have it though.
