[ubuntu-in] permanently putting eth1 to sleep

Hi all,
  This is the status of my interfaces whenever I start my computer :-

shirish at Mugglewille:~/Documents$ ifconfig

Of these two interfaces only eth0 is the one which is functioning. The
other one eth1 isn't used or doesn't work.

Now is there anyway to permanently shutdown eth1 rather than doing
sudo ifconfig eth1 down ?

Looking forward for comments and suggestions on the above.
