[ubuntu-in] Problem on Desktop of Ubuntu 8.10

Hi

Am running ubuntu 8.10 with the default gdm and also with compfiz.

Problem is that every time i try and click an icon on the desktop it
changes workspaces back to the first(if its not on the first workspace)
and if its on the first nothing happens.

I need to use the right click mouse button to get some response, when it
opens the right click menu.

Tried turning off compfiz but that did not solve the problem either.

any idea what could be wrong and how to resolve it.
