[ubuntu-in] synaptic manager problen

hello everyone..
actually i have a problem when i try to install any softwares or try to
update.. the reads as follows

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to
correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

any assistance..
