generally in linux OS link ubuntu, kubuntu the package to support for media
file are not available in the OS u have to download it

There is a Package-Manager Menu Option in the System menu ... u will find it

open it .. U will be asked ur SuperUser Password .....Enter the password ...
U will see there are a lot of package as a list ..... U select the package u
want to download .....Then active it ......But the only thing is that u will
need Internet

-Or-

U can manually download this from  internet and can install it ....

Try this link u will find ur VLC media player u can download it
There are also given some command u just type those command in ur shell it
will automatically install ur VLC media player ....
But Internet must be there .....
