First a few Q's:
Are you run the Live Cd and boot to a Live session?
Were you able to at all install ANY Linux, either direct or in VM?
Are you booting off a CD or USB?
The hardware is fine and capable to run any Linux. If you are booting from a
CD, its possible that the CD is faulty or the CD drive is faulty. I have a
CD drive that writes CD's fine, but the CD's wont boot (get I/O erro. Other
data it writes fine. So the problem can be the media (CD?USB) or the
drive(CD drive).
Once you revert with a few more details I am sure more people will chip in.
