Last year I had bought an Acer laptop for my aunt. It had pretty
decent configuration for home use (including webcam). Everything
worked out of box except wireless in Ubuntu 9.04. The wireless
(Atheros chipset) worked with kernel updates form jaunty-updates
repository. It cost me around 33k at that time. I don't remember exact
model but it was from Acer Aspire 4xxx series.

About 4-5 months back one of my collegues bought an Acer laptop in
same series which came with FreeDOS. I don't remember the cost but it
was more than 33K because of newer hardware.

If you know anyone who can buy laptop in US then you can try ones from
System76. They sell laptops with Ubuntu pre-installed and have
received good reviews. There is another similar manufacturer ZaReason.

Hope this helps.
