The simplest way I found that worked for me twice was just booting
into karmic or a live CD (karmic and above only) and running 'sudo
update-grub2'
Just today after installing lucid and upgrading to beta1 my windows 7
entry disappeared. I ran 'sudo update-grub2' and it found windows 7
entry again.
