just run command[1] in terminal


[1] gnome-volume-control-applet

if it works

you can add it to you startup application

go to syste menue ------> preferences -----> startup application , click 
on Add , type in *

Name* gnome-volume-control
*Command* gnome-volume-control-applet
*Comment *whatever you wish

close  and reboot
