Didnt quite understand. Why did it not boot. If the install was ok, it will
boot into a command line. Then you can add all the packages you want.

As a last resort try this: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/minimal.

Arch too will boot into a command line and you need to configure your system
from there.

Pl post the errors that you are getting so that someone will help.
