Dear James,
Hi
Once again thanks for the link
and also for opening up the discussion to Ubuntu and education.
In fact i have just emerged from a Computer Class - where we providing young
children of our community (a rural mountain community) a chance to learn and
use a computer. We are using 2 Ubuntu machines and one OLPC - the olpc is
justb a familiarisation exercise while they get on with major learning on
the two old laptops.
For us long term quality is very important - and while none of the models
(samsung / Asus) provided pre loaded ubuntu atleast they give us DOS and for
a smaller price. Then we go around installing Ubuntu .
It the last year i have helped 4 people by laptops - an since people
depended on me to ensure a good buy the cost charged was to have their
laptops converted to Ubuntu. 3 of these 4 users are first time novices so
they start directly on Ubuntu - no wincedows shindows.
@ Simmtronics - i phoned them shortly after your mail and got a rude reply
that the number provided on their website is not for sales enquiiries and i
should phone some other number, The woman on line was quite rude , however
am giving it one more go by maiing them. Lets see what happens, will let you
know
regards
ram
