ubuntu fans may not like this advice , but try linux mint, xfce
version, it has everything Ubuntu has and more and most media codecs
work out of the box , regarding updates - apt-on cd is a very good
tool - as long as you have the same version running somewhere , where
there is a net connection. I create apt-on's for other versions (not
my installed os version) but running a session under virtual box and
updating and creating an apton cd there and then copying it for use.
