I'm still using 9.04, largely for the same reason-- I need a good Indic
desktop search tool.

Beagle Search is available in the repos up through 10.04 LTS. After that
it was dropped, because the Beagle app is no longer being updated. I
think one could compile it for use in 10.10 or 11.04, but I don't have
that sort of experience. Otherwise I'd do it. But surely there must be
something out there that serves to replace Beagle Search, for those who
use Indic Fonts. And it would probably be needed for people all over the
world in various countries who use alphabets other than the standard
latin.
