Stepping down from the IRC team

Hi Mez,

As you probably are, Im very tired of this thread. It keeps me up at nights
trying to think of a good resolution and a decent way forward. Regarding the
factoid (we are making a big deal of that arent we) If you had stuck around
a few seconds longer after the mock attention paying you would have seen me
explain why I was asking for "non useless" factoids to be added:
[13:50:22] <jussi01> great, Im glad you are paying attention ;) This is
important for everyone that we have sane factoids, they are seen by many
users as operator approved explanations for things, and we need to make sure
they are not only correct but useful also.

Mez, Im sure you are a good guy, with great intentions and you are feeling a
bit of an outsider, a bit of a fight to prove stuff here. I understand that,
and can sympathize with feeling on the outside. However, from my point of
view, I have hardly seen you contribute. You are as you mentioned fairly
silent in -ops (for whatever reason) but what I don't understand is you
don't seem to be active in the channels you are/were an operator in?
Taking the other issues that have been raised aside here (and I do believe
some of them exist) I havent seen you active in #ubuntu or elsewhere very
often, which is key for an operator to be at least active in some of the
channels they are opping in, so he gets a feel for how the channel is
progressing and how the channel deals with issues itself. This gives context
to any decisions you need to make as a channel op.

This lack of activeness highlights some of the other issues that I have
seen, the main one is that you dont seem to take instructions on board. I
can remember several times when either I or others have talked to you about
factoids. For me, the bot is a particular subject as I think its very
important to the ubuntu IRC community. As bot the bot owner and an IRCC
member, it is my duty to ensure the factoids are of high quality. If you
have any doubts about adding a particular factoid, you can ask other
opinions in #ubuntu-ops - most of the ops already do this and Id like to
encourage it.

The last thing I want to cover, and this is true for the factoids also, is
that you seem to have a disregard for procedures in the ubuntu operator
community. We have these procedures in place to ensure things get done in a
clear and concise manner - so that things dont fall through the cracks. Even
if you do not think the procedures work, you still need to follow them -
including the ways of getting procedures to change. this is clearly outlined
in the Ubuntu Leadership code of conduct: (
http://www.ubuntu.com/community/leadership-conduct)

*Respecting Ubuntu Processes and Principles*

*The Code of Conduct does not only apply to leaders. It applies to leaders
more. Leaders show more patience, more respect, and more civility than other
members of the Ubuntu community. As leaders, they represent their team and,
ultimately, the whole Ubuntu project. Leaders do their best to reflect the
values that Ubuntu stands for and the behaviors that Ubuntu holds as
paramount. Additionally, they take care to act in accordance with Ubuntu
governance principles and structures and work within the Ubuntu system to
change them.*

So what I'm getting at here is if you had followed these structures, its
quite possible you would not have felt the need to resign from the IRC team
and we would have resolved these small issues as they came up.

In regards to whether you should have "left" the team long ago, I decline to
answer that as it doesnt really help anyone. Im interested in looking
forward, not backward here, in constructive discussion and making things
happen to make Ubuntu IRC a better place.

Please understand these are my feelings based on what I have seen and
observed. As pricey has said previously, We the IRCC cant be everywhere so
we need you to bring things to us or we cannot do anything about them.

BR

Jussi
