Hello Ubuntu-friends,

Maybe I write in English as either I know you nor your language used
normally.

I would like to explain my problem with a hdmi-connection to our SAMSUNG TV.

We want to connect my Laptop to our tv.   After having succeeded to
install the  cyberghost vpn on my Ubuntu 18.04 system,  we can now
neutralize geo-blocking of french television f.ex.

Unfortunately SAMSUNG blocks the connection from my smartphone by use of
the "Smart Thing" App once I activated the cyberghost on my smartphone.
That's the reason why I try to connect our tv with my laptop (via usb cable)

As I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and windows 10 on my Laptop
(dual-boot) I tried the hdmi connection which worked without any problem
with windows 10 (except that windows 10 is very slow on my ASUS D553S)
and I prefer working with Ubuntu.

I use Ubuntu for 99% of my daily tasks.  So I would like to resolve the
problem for the hdmi connection un my Ubuntu operating system.

When I connect the hdmi cable with my laptop nothing happens and the
screen of my laptop turns on black display.

The SAMSUNG tv does not recognize the external source.

So, I made some investigations in the internet and detected some
commands concerning the controller.

Unfortunately my laptop does not use a NVIDIA, but the following
integrated VGA controller:

lspci -v | perl -ne '/VGA/../^$/ and /VGA|Kern|3D|Display/ and print'

  hwinfo --gfxcard --short
graphics card:
                        Intel Atom/Celeron/Pentium Processor
x5-E8000/J3xxx/N3xxx Integrated Graphics Controller

Primary display adapter: #17
didi at didi-X553SA:~$  sudo lshw -C display
   *-display

So my question:  Did you have already experience with hdmi-connections
to tv?

If yes, any idea how I can resolve my problem?

I'm not an UBUNTU specialist, but I'm a great supporter of this
operating system.

Best regards,

Dietmar Schumacher
