Could you add --trace=Program,N:Rss,N:Atom to the mono arguments in
/usr/bin/blam? This should tell us more about the problem.

Are you trying to download an Atom 1.0 feed? That won't work properly at
the moment. (You can check by downloading the feed with your browser or
wget)
