Michele. I installed Ubuntu 8.10 only to remove it after spending a week
trying to get the pptp VPN to work in it. As you might be aware that it is
still broken. Therefore, I have not tested the bug you talk about in the
new release of Ubuntu.

I still cannot use beagle in my current version of Ubuntu even after all the
updates.

You can close this bug if you like. I'm running Windows Aero now most of
the time.

In case you are remotely interested in my opinion of Ubuntu: It is a
remarkable achievement by a volunteer coordinated effort but if you really
want to get things moving then consider this. There should be a program
which rewards all contributors, to Ubuntu, a tiny sum based on the number of
copies of Ubuntu licensed worldwide. For instance, 1/100th of a cent per
user for the contributor of an important driver. Now multiply that with
10,000,000 users (worldwide) and that becomes a thousand dollars. Nice
reward for developing a bug free driver.

At just $10 per licensed Ubuntu user per year you could basically sustain
(not just pay, SUSTAIN) a fixed income of a $1,000 per year for 50,000
contributors. It may not sound like much but considering some people may be
contributing more than just a driver they may be making $20,000 per year
(auxiliary income) from such efforts.

Now you got people interested, sustained and most importantly, feeling
responsible for their contributions.

I already know about the free software foundation so I don't need to be
reminded about that. I am just saying, it might be time to upgrade the
license from free to almost free.

What do you think?

Subject: [Bug 281677] Re: Unable to use Beagle

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity
in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you
try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Status in "beagle" source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm not sure if this is the right place to report a situation like this but
I just picked 'Report a Problem' from Firefox. That seemed easy.

So, as for the problem:

I installed beagle for desktop search. Now when I hit F12 the search window
comes up and no matter what I try to search for, I get a message in the
middle of the window "Search service not running". I can click on the
button 'Start search service' but that does nothing.

I ran this command in terminal: cat ~/.beagle/Log/current-Beagle

This is the result from that command:
