Updarting the issue:
I am unable to play the stream with the amarok version from Karmic. amarok was the only app able to stream in the past.
mms://espalhabrasas.sapo.pt/RFM

I can play the stream using Windows (Windows media player) from the same
PC, so it's not a physical network issue.

Output from vlc:
