This sounds like a damage bug. Probably related to the X server transition going
on, i.e. not Banshee's fault.

Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: banshee

  If I go to banshee's view->equalizer .. the eq shows up, but the
  controls around the presets are not visible until the mouse pointer
  hovers over them. If the combo box is selected, the add/remove buttons
  disappear again until hovered over.
