Comment 2 from a duplicate, bug #719470, that might be useful: 
"I ran

# sudo apt-get install monodoc-browser

and was able to install monodevelop successfully. I still got this
error:

/usr/bin/update-monodoc: line 3: [: argument expected

but it seemed to work through it."
