Yes, this issue is still valid. I attached the logs from the newest
version. I do not to have any problems with Audio CDs using  other apps
like Exaile or cdparanoia.

  Banshee "Encountered fatal error" while playing Audio CD

Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: banshee

  Banshee hangs up and displays "Encountered fatal error" message while
  trying to load Audio CD. It becomes completely unresponsive but it
  does actually play the music. I ran Banshee in console with --debug. I
  attached the output in "banshee-debug.log" file.
