As with the OP of this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/733428 my problem
was not with banshee but with my system not detecting the iPod
correctly. I added the pmcenery/ppa and updated my packages and it fixed
my problem right away.
