Title:
AppIndicator and SoundMenu add unnecessary quote marks in
  notifications

Status in Banshee Music Player:
  Unknown
Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: banshee-community-extensions

Both AppIndicator and SoundMenu have a function GetByFrom to format
the notification that pops up when a new track starts playing. The
template used for this string is:

  "by '{0}' from '{1}'"

that is, it puts apostrophe characters/straight single quotes around
the artist and album name. These are unnecessary and distracting
(although it might be good to italicize the album name).
