Hi Jakub and Ariel,
thanks for your messages (especially, thanks for the link to the Debian bug report).

We're talking about two different bugs here - the original reporter said
he could not connect to the add-ons repository when he was using a proxy
server; at that time, the old trainsimframework.org website was still
running. On the contrary, you are both reporting that the URL for the
remote repository has changed - that's another problem.

For this reason, I have clarified a bit this bug report and opened a new
one (bug #1034511) to keep track of the "URL change" necessity in the
code - please leave comments relating to the URL change there.

Title:
"Could not connect to server" displayed when the HTTP_PROXY
  environment variable is set

Status in “openbve” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After upgrading to the precise version, when viewing the "Get Add-ons"
screen in the main menu, it says "Could not connect to server".
However tcpdump doesn't show any attempt to make any outgoing
  connections that I can see.

It doesn't seem to like my http_proxy for some reason. If I unset
  http_proxy, then it works.

  brian at andean:~$ echo $http_proxy
  http://proxy.pri:3128/

The proxy works fine for other programs.
