Sorry this has not received enough attention. If someone could provide
debdiffs for Yakkety and Xenial as appropriate, then subscribe
~ubuntu-sponsors, then it would enter a queue for attention. This
ideally needs a debdiff though please, which would represent the exact
packaging changes rather than just a patch:

To fix a stable release such as Xenial, attention needs to also be paid
to the SRU procedure:

IMHO, Ubuntu could do a better job of getting from patches to packaging
updates in the sponsorship queue, both in terms of documentation and in
making the process easier. Sorry it's not better.
