You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Running latest Ubuntu, Firefox 2.0.0.4, Thunderbird 1.5.0.10

Ubuntu says system is uptodate, although it is several weeks since I
updated Ubuntu and it has not notified me of any updates yet. Does it
update without telling me about it? Or is this update totally stable?
Or have no updates yet been issued?

Have had strange problems recently, which may be unrelated, but have
only occurred since updating to latest Ubuntu The gnome windows manager
appears to get confused. I regularly run upto 10 firefox windows and
have just started running 6 terminal sessions concurrently. Previously
I normally run either terminal sessions or firefox, but was in the habit
of closing down the terminal sessions prior to using the web

1. Problem with www.asx.com.au using todays announcements. Pressing
refresh often displaying current information rather than latest
information or even information from a previous day. Pressing CTRL-F5
displays correct information, forcing a browser read from the site.
This problem has been occuring for several days recently, so asx.com.au
may have changed their site.... very likely as their support was able
to suggest CTRL-F5 immediately, so were aware of the problem when I
notified them; they suggested browser or ISP were caching webpages
which could be caused by a site change

2. I also run 6 concurrent sessions of terminal, running source code
edits, gcc compilations, lex, yacc and running my compiled programs.
Running vi something went strange; could I have made a mistake?
Possibly. Point 3 below caused me to reboot. I normally run for
several days without a reboot. Prior to this reboot I closed all
terminal sessions and firefox and thunderbird. When shutting down
several firefox or thunderbird windows were displayed momentarily on the
screen, suggesting the windows manager was holding the data somewhere
and it was left over from sessions which had terminated abnormally

3. Thunderbird regularly locks up and either dies or has to be closed
down. I notice that latest version of thunderbird is 2.0.0.0 but Ubuntu
says I am uptodate running 1.5.0.10. Thunderbird was locking up
regularly prior to Ubuntu upgrade, but recently it appears to terminate
without any error indication. You start the program, a thunderbird
starting icon appears on taskbar; then disappears. Problem fixed by
rebooting

So I dont know what is going on. I might even have a hardware fault.
Time will tell; any feedback appreciated

Rgds Bill
