I only can say that I completely disagree with that sentence. What makes
GNU/Linux strong is its community. Almost every Linux user will be glad
to help you as always has been happen with any beginner. Maybe you
haven't asked in the right places. So far this is not for support, but
for bug tracking.

Out there are many support forums, i.e. web based forums (one among
many, and focused to ubuntu, is http://ubuntuforums.org/ ), you can also
ask in a non distro-specific web forum, in usenet, on irc... And from my
experience almost every question one might have about Linux has been
already asked, hence google is a friend too.
